ICYMI: Baldwin Talks Medicaid Cuts, Housing Crisis, Dairy, and Milwaukee Flooding on Second Week of “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” Tour

Baldwin hits Douglas, Eau Claire, Burnett, Buffalo, and Milwaukee counties as tour of the state continues

WISCONSIN – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) wrapped up the second week of her “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” tour with stops spanning the state from Superior to Milwaukee to highlight her work keeping health care and housing costs down for families, supporting Made in Wisconsin dairy, and helping Milwaukee respond to devastating flooding events in recent days.

Senator Baldwin made her first stop in Superior, gathering with business and community leaders to discuss how they can invest in affordable housing to keep costs down for families and meet workforce demands for local businesses. Senator Baldwin talked about her efforts to offer a tax cut to first-time homebuyers, build and preserve more affordable housing units, and stop predatory out-of-state investors from gobbling up housing and jacking up rents.

Senator Baldwin also travelled to Grantsburg and Eau Claire to meet with local health care providers and discuss how Republicans’ budget bill will devastate rural hospitals and terminate health care for an estimated 250,000 Wisconsinites. The legislation, which was signed into law July 4 and supported by every Republican in the Wisconsin congressional delegation, is projected to cost Wisconsin’s rural hospitals $264.6 million a year, jeopardizing the ability of hospitals and clinics to remain open.

Senator Baldwin also visited Rosenholm Dairy in Cochrane to discuss her DAIRY PRIDE Act, legislation to crack down on imitation dairy products using names like milk, cheese, and yogurt and profiting off of dairy’s good name.

Following devastating flooding and extreme weather in Southeastern Wisconsin, Senator Baldwin also visited Milwaukee to survey the damage and meet with local leaders on their plans for recovery. Senator Baldwin penned a bipartisan letter to the Trump Administration on Thursday, calling on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to approve Governor Tony Evers’ request for a formal federal preliminary damage assessment and to provide immediate support for communities in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Next week, Senator Baldwin’s “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” tour continues with stops in Dane, Grant, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Waukesha counties.
