Southeastern Wisconsin Flooding Resources

FEMA Assistance

Wisconsin homeowners and renters in Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties with uninsured damage to their primary home, personal property loss, or disaster-related emergency needs due to the August storms and flooding may apply for FEMA assistance. The deadline to apply is November 12, 2025.

FEMA and Milwaukee County will be opening Disaster Recovery Centers to help individuals apply for assistance. Locations and times are as follows:

  • McNair Elementary School, 4950 N. 24th St. Milwaukee. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sundays
  • Wauwatosa City Hall, 7725 W. North Ave. Wauwatosa. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sundays. Open through October 10, 2025

FEMA and Waukesha County will also be opening Disaster Recovery Centers to help individuals apply for assistance. Representatives from the Small Business Administration will be present at each location.  Locations and times are as follows:

  • Sept. 23-30: Butler Village Hall, 12621 W. Hampton Ave., Butler. Tuesday through Tuesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (includes Saturday and Sunday, same hours)
  • Oct. 1-4 and 6-11: Brookfield Public Safety Building, 2100 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield. Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (except Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Oct. 13-17: Muskego City Hall, W182 S8200 Racine Ave., Muskego. Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

FEMA and Washington County also have a Disaster Recovery Center to help individuals apply for assistance:

  • 333 E Washington St, West Bend (Lower-Level) Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:30pm

SBA Assistance

Businesses, private nonprofits and residents in Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties may be eligible for physical damage and economic injury assistance through the Small Business Administration (SBA), while businesses and most private nonprofits in Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, and Walworth counties may be eligible for economic injury assistance. The deadlines for applications are November 10, 2025 for Home Disaster and Business Physical Disaster Loans and June 11, 2026 for Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

The SBA has opened Business Recovery Centers to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help individuals complete their application. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment in advance at appointment.sba.gov.

  • Washington County: Germantown Area Chamber of Commerce, N112 W 16760 Mequon Rd Germantown. Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Waukesha County: Waukesha American Job Center, 2607 N Grandview Blvd Waukesha. Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tax Assistance

Following the disaster declaration issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), individuals and households residing or having a business in Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties qualify for tax relief. More information is available here.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is available for eligible workers in Milwaukee County, Washington County, and Waukesha County through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. More information is available here.

Emergency Assistance

  • Police and Fire: Call 911 if you need immediate life-threatening assistance.
  • 211: Dial 211 if you are experiencing property damage (ex. flooded basements or collapsed walls). You can also fill out a property damage report on their website.
    • Note: Reporting damage does not guarantee FEMA assistance but may help with disaster recovery efforts.
  • We Energies: Updates for power outages can be found on the We Energies app, outage map, or by calling 800-662-4797.
    • Report a downed power line at 800-662-4797.
  • Insurance Questions: Reach out to the State of Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance by
  • American Red Cross: For immediate help, call 1-800-RED CROSS.

Local Emergency Assistance

  • City of Milwaukee: Below are the resources the City of Milwaukee is offering:
    • Reporting Street Flooding & Other Issues: To report street flooding, water backing up into basements, downed trees or limbs, or stranded/disabled vehicles, please call 414-286-CITY (2489), visit milwaukee.gov/clickforaction, or download the MKEMobile Action App.
    • City of Milwaukee Sanitation & Drop-Off Services: Drop-off service fees are waived through Sunday, August 17, are open from 7AM-6PM, and are located at 3879 W. Lincoln Ave (South Site) and 6660 N Industrial Road please (enter from Mill Road) (North Site)
    • City of Milwaukee Health Department Health & Flood Safety Tips: To stay informed about health precautions during and after flooding, visit the City of Milwaukee Health Department website.
  • Milwaukee County: Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management is available 24/7 at (414) 257-4709 regarding emergency response and recovery efforts.
