U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Visits Sturgeon Bay, Tours Local Businesses Creating Jobs with Support from Export-Import Bank Investments

Washington D.C. - U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today visited two Sturgeon Bay businesses that have been helped by Export-Import Bank investments. Both Marine Travelift and Dan’s Fish, Inc. have created local jobs and economic growth for the community with support from the Bank.  Baldwin supports reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, which the Senate is expected to consider when they return this fall.

Unless Congress takes action, the Export-Import Bank is set to expire September 30, which will stop its assistance to the thousands of U.S. exporters that benefit from this federal agency. Since 2007, the Export-Import Bank has helped 180 Wisconsin businesses, including 105 small businesses, by supporting the export of nearly $4 billion worth of goods and products.

“If American businesses have a level playing field, they can compete against anyone. The Export-Import Bank is an important tool that helps us create that level playing field, bringing fairness to global trade and supporting American businesses so they can create jobs and grow,” said Baldwin. “Marine Travelift and Dan’s Fish are great examples of Made in Wisconsin businesses here at home, that have exported goods across the world with help from the Bank. Reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank is a commonsense way to strengthen our Wisconsin economy and ensure American competiveness.”

Today in Sturgeon Bay, Baldwin toured Marine Travelift, which employs nearly 200 workers and uses Wisconsin-sourced materials to manufacture boat handling equipment that is exported around the world. Baldwin was also joined by Unites States Coast Guard officers during the tour to discuss the importance of Wisconsin manufacturing for national security, federal “Buy American” policies and the USDOT Small Shipyard Grant Programs.

Baldwin also met with Dan Schwarz of Dan’s Fish, Inc. to discuss the positive impact of the Export-Import Bank on his family-operated business. Dan’s Fish has benefitted from Export-Import Bank investments to sell freshwater fish internationally.
