U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Appointed to Bipartisan Budget Conference Committee
Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin has been appointed to work on the bipartisan budget conference committee. Yesterday, Baldwin voted for bipartisan legislation that passed the U.S. Senate (81-18), the U.S. House of Representatives (285-144), and was signed by President Obama to end the shutdown, open the government, and prevent a government default. This agreement also paved the way for convening a conference where Democrats and Republicans can work together on a budget resolution.
“I was proud to support a bipartisan compromise that provides us with an opportunity to break this destructive pattern in Washington of drifting from one manufactured crisis to the next. I also look forward to working across party lines on the budget conference committee to find common ground on a bipartisan budget agreement. Now is the time for both parties to work together to pass a responsible budget that invests in the middle class, strengthens our economy, and takes a balanced approach to reducing the deficit without shortchanging our future. The middle class families and small businesses that are working so hard to move our economic recovery forward deserve to have both parties in Washington working together to pass a bipartisan budget that creates jobs and grows our economy.”
