Senate Passes Baldwin, Rubio Bipartisan Resolution for National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan resolution from Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) designating September 2020 as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. The resolution (S.Res.698) highlights the prevalence of spinal cord injuries and paralysis in the United States and commends those that are committed to improving the quality of life for these individuals while tirelessly working toward better therapies and treatments, with the eventual goal of a cure.

“Wisconsin families, children and patients living with spinal cord injuries and paralysis need our commitment to provide essential services like peer support and information that will help improve their quality of life,” said Senator Baldwin. “This bipartisan resolution represents our continued promise in continuing our work to advance efforts that improve health and support independence for the millions of Americans living with spinal cord injuries and paralysis in Wisconsin and across the country.”

“Spinal cord injuries and paralysis affect many Americans, and I am amazed by what those living with such injuries are able to achieve,” said Senator Rubio. “One of my goals is to continue promoting the conversation about the devastating effects of paralysis and bring spinal cord injury to the forefront of public awareness. I am proud to have introduced a resolution every year since joining the Senate to highlight National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month and to commend the families, friends, and organizations that are committed to improving the quality of life for these individuals while tirelessly working toward better therapies and treatments, with the eventual goal of a cure.”
