U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Announces $1.6 Million in Federal Funding to Repair Flood-Damaged Roads and Bridges in Western Wisconsin

This announcement comes after Senator Baldwin called on Secretary Foxx to make emergency funding available

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced $1.6 million in Emergency Relief funds from the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to repair roads and bridges damaged by flooding in western Wisconsin. This announcement comes after Senator Baldwin sent a letter earlier this month to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx requesting that he make funding available to help repair roads and bridges damaged by recent storms in western Wisconsin.

“Recent flooding has severely damaged many important roads and bridges in communities throughout western Wisconsin,” said Senator Baldwin. “These emergency funds will provide relief to communities and help ensure Wisconsinites have safe access to food, water, gas and other necessities.”

A total of $1,615,000 in “quick release” funding will be used to stabilize, rebuild and repair damaged embankments, roadways and bridges.

Last week, Senator Baldwin also announced a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) major disaster declaration by President Obama for ten western Wisconsin counties affected by the September flooding that made federal funds available to repair damaged public infrastructure. This declaration came after Senator Baldwin and members of the Wisconsin delegation sent a letter to President Obama requesting prompt federal support for the affected counties in western Wisconsin at the beginning of the month, and then another follow up letter requesting a major disaster declaration for western Wisconsin.
