Baldwin Statement on Presidential Signing of VOCA Fix

Washington, D.C. – Senator Tammy Baldwin released the below statement following President Joe Biden signing the VOCA Fix to Sustain the Crime Victims Fund Act of 2021 into law.

“I was honored to join President Biden at the White House for the signing of the VOCA Fix bill—which secures billions of federal dollars in victim services funding and will impact thousands of local domestic violence shelters, child abuse treatment programs, elder fraud and abuse services, rape crisis centers, and legal services in Wisconsin and nationwide,” said Senator Baldwin. “This legislation ensures we can avoid devastating cuts to programs that serve as a lifeline to crime victims and allows providers to continue delivering the vital services that victims and their families both need and deserve.”

The bipartisan legislation passed the Senate earlier this week. The centerpiece of this legislation and most important change to VOCA is the “Deposits Fix” – first identified and introduced in legislation by Senator Baldwin in 2020. The “Deposits Fix” will redirect monetary penalties from federal deferred prosecution and non-prosecution agreements into the CVF to increase funding for state victim compensation and assistance programs.
