U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and State Representative Cory Mason Tour 4K Preschool Program to Highlight Racine Promise Zone Application

HUD Promise Zone designation would help Racine invest in education and economic development

RACINE, WI – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and State Representative Cory Mason (D-Racine) today toured the 4K Preschool Program at Living Faith Lutheran Church and held a discussion with Racine County leaders to highlight Racine’s application to be a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Promise Zone.

“I am proud to strongly support Racine’s application to become a Promise Zone because we need to make sure our Wisconsin communities have opportunities to invest in their education, workforce readiness and economic development,” said Senator Baldwin. “This is about improving the lives of hardworking Wisconsinites and their families. A Promise Zone designation would help Racine create stronger growth in an economy built for everyone and make sure our children have the education they need and deserve.”

“A Promise Zone designation would allow the community to make a significant impact on reducing poverty in Racine. Instead of piloting programs that help hundreds, a Promise Zone would allow us to address the more than 25,000 living in poverty; moving the under and unemployed into job training classes, enrolling children into early education programs, improving health care outcomes, investing in economic development, and keeping our communities safe,” said State Representative Cory Mason.

Senator Baldwin has strongly supported Racine’s application for a HUD Promise Zone designation. Being named a Promise Zone would open up opportunities for Racine to invest in economic, commercial, educational and workforce revitalization. Racine’s plan aims to improve kindergarten readiness; enhance job training programs; increase economic development by developing commercial areas; provide small business development assistance; increase access for healthcare services for pregnant women and low-income families; and reduce crime.
