Senator Baldwin Joins Resolution Calling for Demilitarized Palestinian Statehood

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) joined her colleagues in introducing a resolution calling on the President to recognize a demilitarized Palestinian state.

“I believe in my core that a two-state solution is our only path to peace, prosperity, and security in the region. We cannot lose sight of this goal right now because it has never been more important to provide hope for something better,” said Senator Baldwin. “This resolution doubles down on decades of U.S. foreign policy – from both Democrats and Republicans – that recognizes lasting peace in the region relies on the Israeli and Palestinian peoples having their own states. While a two-state solution is our North Star, we cannot stop the pressure to end this war, bring all remaining Israeli hostages home, and surge aid to Palestinian civilians suffering.”

The resolution calls for U.S. recognition of a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside a secure Israel, in accordance with international law and the principles of a two-state solution. It underscores how urgent U.S. action would preserve the best chance for peace, helping give both Palestinians and Israelis a future grounded in freedom, security, and prosperity.

The resolution comes as world leaders meet at the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, where a number of U.S. allies are preparing to recognize a Palestinian state, joining more than 140 of the 193 UN member states who already do so—a reflection of the global consensus that Palestinian statehood must be part of any lasting peace.

The resolution is endorsed by J Street.
