Health Care Open Enrollment Starts Today

Open enrollment for 2018 Marketplace health insurance plans runs from November 1 through December 15, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Open Enrollment period for Marketplace health plans for 2018 starts today, November 1, and runs through December 15, 2017. Wisconsinites looking to enroll in a health insurance plan for next year can compare plans and sign up on Healthcare.gov, and returning enrollees can shop around for a more affordable plan that meets their needs. Many Wisconsinites will qualify for financial assistance such as tax credits to help make the cost of care more affordable.

“This year, Washington was consumed by a debate over partisan health care repeal that threatened health care for Wisconsinites. The people of Wisconsin did not send me to Washington to take people’s health care away, so I’m going to keep working to protect and expand coverage, and to make health care more affordable.” said Senator Baldwin. “Despite these partisan repeal threats, Healthcare.gov is open for business and Wisconsinites can go online and enroll in quality, affordable health coverage.”

A member of the HELP Committee, Senator Baldwin has been leading the effort in the Senate to restore investments in enrollment outreach and in-person assistance, which the Trump Administration gutted earlier this year. In-person assistance is especially critical to ensuring younger adults sign up for health care, which will further help stabilize the market and lower costs. Senator Baldwin is a co-sponsor of the Health Care Stabilization Act of 2017, bipartisan legislation that provides funding to support in-person navigators and outreach efforts for the 2018 and 2019 enrollment periods, and holds the Trump Administration accountable for making these investments to provide the essential consumer outreach and assistance to help families enroll in coverage that meets their needs. The Health Care Stabilization Act of 2017 also helps mitigate the damage done by the Administration’s sabotage by restoring cost-sharing reduction payments that make health care more affordable for 110,000 Wisconsinites.

To sign up for 2018 coverage, you must enroll by December 15, 2017. Visit Healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 24 hours a day.
