U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Announces Nearly $12 Million to Continue Fighting the Opioid Crisis in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced that an additional $11.9 million in federal grant funding was awarded to help Wisconsin combat the opioid epidemic.

“I’m continuing my bipartisan work to make sure local communities in Wisconsin have the federal resources they need to support local prevention, treatment and recovery efforts,” said Senator Baldwin. “Washington needs to do more to address the opioid epidemic and this federal funding will continue our strong partnership with state and local officials that is essential to an effective response. We must act immediately and put these federal investments to work in Wisconsin to support our continued fight against this deadly crisis.”

The $11.9 million in federal funding for Wisconsin will be distributed through the State Opioid Response grants program administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The State Opioid Response grants from SAMHSA provide funding to state governments to support prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Baldwin has been a leader in working to provide more federal funding to fight the opioid epidemic in Wisconsin. She worked to provide funding for the State Opioid Response Grants program that will combat this deadly epidemic and save lives.

This news comes after Senator Baldwin announced on Tuesday that Wisconsin was awarded $5,195,302 in federal funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address the opioid epidemic through enhanced prevention efforts.
