Inauguration

Since 1901, and in accordance with the 20th Amendment of the United States Constitution, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) has been responsible for the planning and execution of the Inaugural Ceremonies of the President-elect and Vice President-elect of the United States at the Capitol.

The JCCIC, in consultation with diversified public health and medical experts and the Presidential Inaugural Committee, has now determined that this global pandemic and the rise in COVID-19 cases warranted a difficult decision to limit attendance at the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies to a live audience that resembles a State of the Union.

As such, no tickets will be made available to Members of Congress for their constituents to attend the 59th Inaugural Ceremonies in person.

The JCCIC is working on enhanced opportunities to watch the ceremonies online, in addition to the traditional televised national broadcast. For more information, please visit the JCCIC’s website.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee, which handles all inauguration activities other than the official swearing-in ceremony, has also established a website where you may sign up to receive the latest inauguration news. Click here to add your contact information to the notification list.

This page will be updated as more information on how to engage and participate safely in inaugural events becomes available.
