May is National Foster Care Month

This month, we observe National Foster Care month – a time each year that reminds us of the children and families throughout our communities who value this important program. Foster care programs embrace children and youth, share the value of family, and provide a safe space important to their well being.

Throughout her time in public service, Senator Baldwin has been an advocate for strengthening foster care programs – most recently with her introduction of the Quality Foster Care Services Act. This bipartisan legislation increases access to quality Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) services, which are critical for foster children with special behavioral health needs and medical disabilities. Her bill would establish a standard, federal definition of TFC under Medicaid. This simple clarification is essential to improving health and mental health care services for thousands of America's most vulnerable youth and ensures that community-based options are available to the young people who need them most.

This month we express our gratitude to the professionals, parents, mentors, and surrounding community who support and care for children through foster care.
