U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Votes to Confirm Tom Perez as Secretary of Labor

Washington D.C. -- U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today made the following statement regarding the Senate confirmation of Thomas Perez as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. Mr. Perez was confirmed, 54-46.

“Tom Perez is a dedicated public servant whose strong commitment to preserving the American dream and keeping it in reach for middle class families will make him a strong Secretary of Labor. His life experiences as the son of immigrants, who relied on financial aid to become the first lawyer in his family, have taught him a lot about hard work. I know he’ll work tirelessly on behalf of the American people and Wisconsin’s working families.

“We must work to close the gap between the economic security Wisconsinites work so hard to achieve and the economic uncertainty that they are asked to settle for. Because if we can’t close that gap, we might someday talk about the middle class as something we used to have, not something each generation can aspire to. I congratulate Secretary Perez and his family, which includes ties to Wisconsin, and I look forward to working with him to ensure that we create an economy built to last and move it forward for the people of Wisconsin.”
